This week we received our LEED Silver Certificate from the Green Building Council for the City of San Antonio Public Safety Headquarters.
This facility serves as the headquarters for both the COSA Police and Fire Departments, replacing their former offices at various locations. The Design / Build with Bridging Documents delivery method was used. This project won the San Antonio Business Journal’s 2012 Best in Commercial Real Estate award for “Best Municipal Project”.
What is LEED?
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a rating system devised by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) to evaluate the environmental performance of a building and encourage market transformation towards sustainable design. The system is credit-based, allowing projects to earn points for environmentally friendly actions taken during construction and use of a building. LEED was launched in an effort to develop a “consensus-based, market-driven rating system to accelerate the development and implementation of green building practices.”
LEED Commissioning includes all aspects of:
- Heating systems
- Ventilation systems
- Air conditioning systems
- Refrigeration systems
- Lighting controls
- Day-lighting controls
- Hot water systems
- Renewable energy systems such as wind or solar power
